Stephenie Meyer On That Rumored 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Credit Sequence
It's hard to believe, but the end of "The Twilight Saga" is very near - but don't shed any tears. Author Stephenie Meyer sure isn't, at least not yet.
MTV: Hi, Stephenie! "Breaking Dawn: Part 2" is almost here. Are you ready to take your victory lap?Stephenie Meyer: [laughs] I don't think the term "victory lap" has ever entered my mind. In sports terms it's a hurdle. We've got one more hurdle to jump in this area and then I have to go on to different ones.
MTV: Have you taken any time yet to reflect on this being the end of the franchise?Meyer: I've been carefully not thinking about it that way because I don't want to be sad yet.
MTV: When did you see the final cut of the film?Meyer: Monday [October 22]. It was the first time I've seen it with all of the effects in place. It had a lot of impact. Also, all the music was in, which really impacts the emotion of it.
MTV: Did you find yourself getting a little emotional while watching the end?Meyer: Yeah. There's no way not to [be emotional] with the end of this one. [Director] Bill [Condon] has a very good sense of how to really wring your emotions. He put the end together in such a way that I don't think you cannot have a moment. I can only imagine the fans will really appreciate that moment of reflection.
MTV: Kellan Lutz recently said there's a special bonus scene during the credits. What can you say about that?Meyer: That's actually incorrect. What they've been talking about will be in DVD extras I assume but it's not in the credits. There is no extra scene.
MTV: Of course the fans are very excited to see Kristen's interpretation of Bella as a vampire at last.Meyer: It's subtle and yet kind of amazing. She's very self-possessed the way she holds herself. She's a completely different kind of character.
MTV: Meanwhile Robert Pattinson has been describing the vampire sex in the film as "ridiculous" in recent interviews.Meyer: Yeah I saw that. I think he was talking about how it was so hard to keep a straight face [during that scene]. For the actors, there are 40 people in the room and most of them are inches away from you. It's a kind of awkward menage-a-forty going on. I think when you see the scene it's a testament to their acting ability that you don't see any of that in that moment at all.
MTV: Are you happy with the changes that have been made from the book?Meyer:There is an element we had to change to make it more visual. The changes give us a bigger story. It's something that me and [screenwriter] Melissa [Rosenberg] came up with over one long dinner in Vancouver. Once we had figured out how we wanted to do it everything really fell into place.
MTV:Can you shed some light on the recent reports that the studio is exploring a continuation of the franchise? Have you discussed more 'Twilight' with them?Meyer: I haven't. I've had no conversations to that effect at all. I've seen a couple things about it but it's really not anything I've heard about personally.
MTV: Are you open to more films or TV that would continue the story? Or would you rather any stories begin as books?Meyer: I don't know. For me I have a very different agenda [than the studio]. It seems like that there should be some time, a resting period before that kind of thing comes up but I know they have a different way of looking at things and I'm sure it will be discussed. I'm always open to conversation. Generally if it's going to be characters that I like, I'd like to read about them first. But that's because I'm a book nerd.
MTV: Will you be getting into a writing zone once this promotional period is over?Meyer: Hopefully. It's a challenge right now. Actually right now I'm working on my Halloween costume and I totally bit off more than I can chew with it.
MTV: What is it?Meyer: I don't even know if I'm going to be able to wear it. It's going to be like sixty pounds on my shoulders. I'm a mermaid being carried by a pirate in a treasure chest.

Stephenie Meyer's "The Host" trailer to be released this Thursday!
It's somewhat of a dream to have the creator and director of my favorite sci-fi film (Gattaca) helming this movie. I love the script he's written, I love his beautiful vision, and I love working with him.
I also can't say strongly enough how thrilled I am with our cast. The talent involved is unbelievable. We've been so blessed/lucky/kissed-by-fate all throughout the casting process. Wanda/Melanie is a very complicated role, and for a long time one of our biggest worries in the producer camp was finding an actress who could bring those two distinct personalities to life. And then Saoirse came along and we all quit worrying. If you've never had the pleasure of watching her act, I highly recommend her recent release, Hanna.
Actually, watch her in anything she's done and you'll see what I mean. After Saoirse joined us, amazing actor after amazing actor signed on until none of us could believe our good fortune. Just the other day I got to meet William Hurt (!!) in full Jeb beard and hair, and it kind of choked me up. He looks amazing—they all look amazing!—and I can't wait to see them in action next week.

Stephenie Meyers 'The Host': Which characters are left to cast?
As it stands, here's the list of who's been cast for which roles:
- Saoirse Ronan for "Melanie Stryder"/"Wanda"
- Diane Kruger for "The Seeker"
- William Hurt for "Jeb"
- Jake Abel - "Ian O'Shea"
- Max Irons - "Jared Howe"
- Chandler Canterbury - "Jamie Stryder"
- Boyd Holbrook - "Kyle O'Shea"
- "Maggie" - She's a bit of a villain in the story, as she refuses to accept "Wanda" even after most people have come around to her. She's also "Jeb's" sister and the mother to "Sharon." She's got dark grey hair.
- "Sharon" - She shares her mother's distaste for "Wanda." She has reddish hair and is around the same age as "Melanie."
- "Doc" - He's the in-cave medic for the human group who helps "Wanda" at the end. He's tall and thin with blondish hair.
- "Walter" - This was one of the nicer and more trusting humans of the bunch. He befriends "Wanda" and even confuses her for his own wife after he falls ill. He's an older man with white hair.
- "Wes" - Human victim of "The Seeker." He's a teenager with black hair.
- "Lily" - Humorous and light-hearted human who gives "Wanda" a chance pretty early on. She's in her twenties and is described to have caramel skin.
- "Jodi" - Human who was inhabited by the soul "Sunny." Because of "Wanda's" information, her boyfriend "Kyle" mistakenly believed she could be separated from the soul. She's described as short.

The Host News: Saoirse Ronan Cast, Stephenie Meyer to promote at Cannes Film Festival?
Deadline Exclusive:
Saoirse Ronan has been set to star in The Host, the screen adaptation of the bestselling novel by Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer.

They deliberately developed the script outside the studio system, and invited the author to be very hands on in the adaptation. Meyer was involved down to choosing Niccol because she was such a fan of his films Gattaca and his script for The Truman Show. Niccol wrote the script to direct, but left to direct Now with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy. Nanny McPhee Returns director Susanna White was briefly attached, but that isn't happening. Niccol, now done with his film, is once again in the mix as possible helmer. Inferno's Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are exec producing and Roger Schwartz is co-producer. The film's being funded by the producers and Inferno.
Meyer and Wechsler will attend the festival to present the project to buyers with the Inferno team.
If you've read the book, how exactly do you think they going to portray her character?

Full USA Today Interview with Stephenie Meyer

USA Today Teaser: Stephenie Meyer on Vamp Bella: "Kristen knows the character so well now. I'm Impressed."
Fans, says Meyer, can expect a surprising performance when star Kristen Stewart transforms from human to vampire.
"She's created a new character. I was really impressed," says Meyer. "I've only really seen her as (the human) Bella so to have her step up and change it in the right way — she didn't have to talk to me. She knew. She knows the character so well now. She has really good instincts and, she looks amazing."
In an exclusive interview with USA TODAY's Carol Memmott, coming Thursday, Meyer also shares details on the wedding gown Kristen Stewart wears in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, she dishes about Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, and Meyer talks about the creatures - some watery, some dark - she hopes to write about next. Check back tomorrow for the whole story.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

The Eclipse novella was released today and I decided last minute to check out Borders' midnight release party. Only select stores held them (or will hold them for you west-coasters in the U.S.) and I was surprised to see that the Borders an hour from my house would be open late tonight. I drove down there just to see what sort of turnout there would be and I am sooo glad I did! I got The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner for 40% (yay!) and Borders' had some goodies to give away as well.

They had bookmarks and lanyards for everyone and many of the stores held (will hold) free raffles for a signed bookplate signed by Stephenie Meyer!!
My local Borders was one of the stores who gave away one of the bookplates and guess who won???

Stephenie Meyer To Host Four Fansites

On her website today, Stephenie announced that in lieu of a traditional press junket, she will be holding her own mini-junket for Eclipse. Steph chose four U.S. Twilight fansites at random and the winners will be the ones conducting the interview!
Here is her official announcement:
Hey guys,
I want to do something different with publicity for this movie release. For Twilight, I did the normal press junket, for New Moon I got to go on Oprah. Both of these were fun, exciting experiences. However, they both had the same drawback—the interviews were designed for a very broad audience, and because of that, most of the questions were about things you guys have known the answers to for years. I feel like all of the basic questions have been answered, and for Eclipse I want to focus on the more specific questions of the readers. To accomplish that, I'm hosting my own mini-junket with a few fansites. It will be held on Friday, June 18th, the week before the L.A. premiere.
Unfortunately, I can't talk to every single site, and I want to keep this as low key and enjoyable as possible. So I put all the U.S. fansites in a hat (for logistical reasons, we had to keep this in the country) and drew out four names.
The names I drew were:
- Twilight Series Theories (twilightseriestheories.com)
- Twilight Source (twilightsource.com)
- Twifans (www.twifans.com)
- Letters To Twilight (letterstotwilight.wordpress.com)
Each of these sites is invited to send two members of their staff (or one member and a guest) to our fan-centric mini-junket. You will be contacted shortly by my assistant, who will give you all the specific information. In the event that any of the sites is unable to send representatives, I've already drawn four back up sites, which I will post if it becomes necessary.
I'll answer all of your questions (and your readers questions, if you want to poll them) about the Eclipse Movie, and the Bree story, as well, which will have been out for a few weeks by then. We'll have lunch, hang out, and hopefully have a fantastic time. I hope you all can make it!
-Steph
Wow! That's amazing! Congratulations to the four sites and if you *ahem* need a second person to go, I am available. :)
What question or questions would you ask Stephenie?

FAMOUS Mag (AU): Twilight TV Spin-off, Chaske in Rehab, Stephanie:"J.K Rowling Who?" & that 'agent' rumour
- Rumour has it, Rob has landed $500 million to play the role of Edward in a Twilight spin-off television series (around $2 million an episode! When? A year after Eclipse is released
- In Twilight, he earned $2 million and $12 million for every subsequent film
- Rob intends to ‘record a few tracks’ after he is done with Twilight & music moguls are falling over themselves to try and sign him up to a label
- Stands to make a mint if he endorses commercial products (didn’t he already with the Volvo ad?)
- Article also mentions Chaske’s stint in rehab which Chaske himself confirmed was true via a personal message on his website to fans: http://www.chaskespencer.com/ . He does say that this was all before New Moon was ‘on his radar’.
- Stephanie Meyer is laughing all the way to the bank with $90 million from book sales alone
- Rob laughs off rumours of a romance with his long-time agent Stephanie Ritz. This bit made me laugh: “It’s little surprise the rumour mill started working overtime seeing the tight-knit duo reportedly spend an increasing amount of time in each other’s company” Well der!! He and SHE have been busy promoting New Moon leading up to and including premiere’s all over the show *shakes head*

Breaking Dawn - Plagiarism Update (Poss spoilers incl.if you have not read Breaking Dawn)

As you may have heard, there has been a plagiarism claim laid against Stephenie Meyer for her 4th book in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn.
Jordan Scott, who wrote a book called 'The Nocturne', at the age of 15, and posted excerpts of it online, before later being published, is the claimant.
Scott's attorneys have sent a cease-and-desist order to Meyer's publisher, Hachette Book Group. They highlight similarities in both books, including a wedding, a romantic rendezvous on a beach, and a vampire transformation, among other scenarios.
Scott's attorneys say they plan to file a copyright infringement lawsuit in federal court, and say they seek no monetary damages.
Both sides have issued statements.
Scott's attorney said: "Jordan Scott regularly posted passages and chapters to her website. In reviewing Breaking Dawn, we found a number of instances where the text, characters and storyline contain substantial similarities to Scott's original work."
The Hachette Book Group released this statement: "The claim that Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim. Ms. Scott’s attorney has yet to furnish us with a copy of the book to support this claim as requested. The world of The Twilight Saga and the stories within it are entirely the creation of Ms. Meyer. Her books have been a phenomenal sensation, and perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success. This claim is frivolous and any lawsuit will be defended vigorously."
So what are your views?
