New Face Fridays Interview with MyAnna Buring (Tanya)! New Face Fridays Interview with MyAnna Buring (Tanya)!

This week's New Face Friday looks at MyAnna Buring - AKA Tanya Denali!

Tanya is part of the Alaskan Denali coven which is considered extended family to the Cullens, and are also a "vegetarian" coven. In the books, Bella finds out that Tanya was once interested in Edward, but that he refused her in a gentlemen-type fashion. Tanya was first mentioned in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie, but we first saw MyAnna Buring portray Tanya as a guest at Bella and Edward's wedding in Breaking Dawn - Part 1.
Now onto the full interview:
Q: A lot of people who are cast talk about the very first time they see themselves in their red or gold contacts, and that's the first time they really felt like a vampire. Can you describe what it was like for us the very first time you saw yourself all decked out in your vampire gear?

MyAnna: It was amazing. I think that's the first moment that I really, truly, believed that I was doing the film. Because all of it, you know, you have this build up when you get the part and you can't quite believe it's true then, and then you arrive and you still can’t quite believe it’s true then. The idea of you becoming a vampire, or becoming part of this incredible group of vampires that’s described in Stephenie’s films, it’s such a far fetched notion in a way, and then all of a sudden as soon as the contacts go in, it’s a reality. Suddenly you are able to see yourself as apart of that group, if you will, and it’s amazing feeling.

Q: Congrats on being cast in Downton Abbey. Can you tell us a little about that part and when you are starting to work on it?

MyAnna: I’ve already started working on it. I play a maid who joins the rest of the staff downstairs. She causes a bit of mischief and I’m very excited to be playing, her name is Edna, and I’m thrilled, really.

Q: Awesome. Excited to see you in it.

MyAnna: It’s quite fun. All of a sudden, in my the last two years, I have been part of the most amazing stories that we’ve had in the last few years, Twilight, and now Downton.

Q: Looking at your resume you have done so much TV and film work. Which do you prefer and why?

MyAnna: I don’t have a preference as to mediums, for me it’s really about the characters and the parts and the stories that we’re telling, that’s what really intrigues me. So whether that is in film or TV, I don’t mind at all. I just feel really lucky that in the last couple of years I have been given the opportunity to play so many different parts, in so many different characters, in so many different stories.

Q: Quick follow up. Are you going to be able to see anything at the Olympics this week?

MyAnna: I will actually. I’m going to see a track and field event later on. I’m thrilled, it’s so hard to get tickets.

Q: How much of the back story between Edward and Tanya might we get to see? I know it was a big part of Midnight Sun for your character, and I was wondering how much of that made it into the movie?

MyAnna: Well of course this film is based on Breaking Dawn, so obviously, I believe it’s going to stay quite true to that story. And if there are any elements of that back story that you feel that hinted towards that more than expressed. Which would be a fun side story to do someday, maybe. (laughs)

Q: Some key parts in the story that fans are excited about with your part is you possibly training vampire Bella and also being on the front lines against the Volturri. Can you give us any clues whether those scenes will be in the movie?

MyAnna: Quite possibly, quite possibly. All I can say is that there is a final confrontation that I think audiences and especially fans will be very excited to see. I was definitely excited to film them. That’s all I can say really [giggles].

Screencap from the teaser trailer!

Q: Was there any favorite moments during filming?

MyAnna: So many. I think I had a favorite moment every single day of shooting. A couple that stand out for me are one day on the set in Baton Rouge, or just outside of Baton Rouge, a few of us cooked up a little plan to surprise Bill Condon with a little bit of a dance off. You know when there was supposed to be something completely different in the take, we were doing a very technically difficult take that we had to do several repeat takes, over and over and over, just to get it right, and we thought that we would be checky and put in a little number that would just lift the spirits on set and create a bit of fun and laughter for all of us. It really paid off for us and it was so much fun. Everyone laughed so much that day and it was just joyous to see everyone having a bit of a dance. And then, I had a stunt which hopefully you’ll get to see in the film, but I wasn’t going to do it. It involved myself and snow. I wasn’t going to do it, but in the very last minute of the day, the last shot, we were up against it and running late and Bill came to me and said, “MyAnna it’s gotta be you that does it. You gotta do it cause they are going to see your face.” So I won’t tell you what the stunt was. Or what exactly I had to do because I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I got ready to go out in the freezing cold and I saw this crew that was so cold and shivering. They had been out all day and I cannot mess this up, we have got to get this in one [take]. And we got it in one [take] and I have never felt so satisfied, ever, with a shot in my life. It was amazing. Just wonderful and the relief on everyone’s faces that they didn’t have to stay in the cold anymore. I felt I had done did my job well that day.

Q: Did you have a chance to talk to Stephenie about your character and what that was like?

MyAnna: Yeah. Well the great thing was that we had Stephenie on the set, everyday, so absolutely. Obviously we had her books for source material while we were researching our characters and there have been so many side stories written around the franchise that was amazing research material. But then, to have the source on set was incredible. So yea, I took every opportunity and chance I got to talk to her about Tanya. I kept joking with her saying, ”come on Tanya has got to end up with somebody, there’s got to be someone cause it’s sad. Everyone ends up with someone.

Q: What did she say?

MyAnna: Well What she said made me very happy, but I will end it at that. [laughs]

Q: Come on you gotta tell us!

MyAnna: I think Tanya will have a great end, or she has a great end in the world of Twilight. Tanya ends up very happy.

Q: Would you ever do a spin-off involving the Denalis?

MyAnna: Well I never shot that possibility out. You never know where you are. As it stands, I don’t believe that it’s in the pipeline to happen right now. You never know and if it were to, perhaps. Maybe, who knows, who knows. I had so much fun shooting these two films that I wouldn’t say no immediately, that’s for sure.

Q: As a fan of the books, you were a fan before you were ever cast.

MyAnna: Yes, absolutely.

Q: I think it has so many great visual images in it and in your filming is there any one scene that stands out in your head and you said “oh gosh this is so much like the book! or everything you imagined?”

MyAnna: Umm. Well the wedding, in the first Breaking Dawn, was really lived up to everything I imagined it would be - everything. I thought Bella's walk up to the altar was just breathtaking and I thought it completely encapsulated what I had envisioned when I read the books. What exceeded my expectations..oh there was so many things that exceeded my expectations, but I have a feeling that in this final film there will be a great moment towards the end that I think will blow people away. It definitely blew me away while we were filming it and I’m really excited for it.

Q: Obviously this movie has a giant cast of new vampires coming in, what kind of things did you do to bond?

MyAnna: Well when we first arrived in Baton Rouge when we first started filming in Louisiana we were all staying at a hotel together. So everyday you woke up you’d walk out of your room and you would stumble across a couple of actors playing vampires and you’d cook up an adventure and go off and do something and you’d stumble onto some people around Baton Rouge and you’d go off and do something else. I think I described it before as having sort of a musical festival feel to me. You know all of a sudden you walk up to this place and you don’t know anyone, but it’s very exciting and by the end of the first couple of days you feel like you’ve known everyone for years. Then you’re all going off and listening to music and making music and having fun and having these little adventures together. Yea it felt like a music festival or summer camp for six months which is an incredible experience that I have never ever experienced before.

Q: Did you keep anything from your character? A prop or anything?

MyAnna: I did end up with a ring. Casey Lebow had a friend, jewelry designer, who Michael Wilkinson saw her stuff, and he said that absolutely we have to use her stuff for the Denalis. Very much Denali material. So we were all decked out in her incredible designs, and they were so beautiful. We cooked up this little story that perhaps the Denalis had odes of mines around the world, in South America and they would go mining themselves for precious jewels and then they would make their own jewelry and that’s what they wore all of them together. One of their trinkets had part of a stone that was broken while filming it wouldn’t be used again and I kept that one.

Anna Kendrick will debut two films at TIFF 2012!

Anna Kendrick is becoming something of a staple for the Toronto International Film Festival, and this year, she'll be debuting not one but two films for the big fest!
TIFF's first line-up announcement included Kendrick's End Of Watch and The Company You Keep. Here are the descriptions for each:

End of Watch (Trailer below): David Ayer (Training Day) writes and directs this high-octane found-footage crime flick about two up-and-coming L.A. cops (Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Peña) who find themselves on the lam from a ruthless drug cartel after making an unexpected discovery during a seemingly routine traffic stop.

The Company You Keep (No trailer yet): Robert Redford directs and stars in this gripping political thriller about a young journalist (Shia LaBeouf) who stumbles upon the story of his career when he uncovers the identity of a wanted ex-radical activist (Redford) who has been underground for five decades.

This'll be Anna Kendrick's third year at TIFF. She first attended the festival for her movie Up In The Air in 2009 (she later received a Supporting Actress Oscar Nomination for that film) and returned in 2011 for her movie 50/50.

New Face Friday interview with Casey LaBow!

Summit Entertainment is starting New Face Fridays today, where every Friday an interview with a new cast member from Breaking Dawn Part 2 will be released.
This weeks interview is courtesy of BellaAndEdward.com, who spoke with Casey LaBow - AKA Kate of the Denali coven!
Enjoy!

Q: Can you tell us about your audition process for the role of Kate?
A: I believe it was five [auditions], if I remember correctly, it was four or five. Initially, they didn’t tell us which part was for, it was for a “Russian sister.” We weren’t given the exact specifications and we were given these fake scenes that were sort of relevant to the story but weren’t actually from the script. They were sort of this rewrite to make it ambiguous so we wouldn’t know who it was, because if you didn’t get the part they didn’t want you walking away with any plot details. I went back in several different times, they wanted me to do different things like straighten my hair because they thought it looked too much like somebody else, then they gave me some new material. There were a lot of people who had to make the decision and everyone had to come in line. It was my part they had some trouble with because according to Maggie [Grace] and MyAnna [Buring] they just sent tapes in and several weeks later found out they got the role. I didn’t have as easy of a time getting the job.
Q: At what point did you first meet Lee Pace and what was it like working with him?
A: I absolutely adore that man, he is just a delight! You have to get really close to a person when they’re playing your lover, and we just got along right away. I met him on set the first day and the first scene we shot together we had already progressed quickly through the love story so we had to pull it all together right away.
Q: How did you prepare yourself for the role of Kate?
A: Obviously a lot was given in the books, but I also did a lot of online research because the fan following online is so prevalent and there’s a lot of discussion of stuff even outside of the book. So when I read the book, I obviously read all of the parts where Kate and her sisters and her family were present. Then I did some research on where we came from and where we were living, Denali, etc. Kate’s been alive for such a long time, so I did a brief overview of the centuries that she lived in. I familiarized myself with the events she got to witness and the places she got to be which was really fun because I could have been in Versailles with Marie Antoinette or anywhere at anytime. I got to make those decisions and have those backstories in my head.
Q: A lot of the characters are going to have CGI powers, do you think yours will?
A: Yes
Q: Can you go into detail at all? Will you shock Edward?
A: I definitely shock some creatures. Short of them actually giving me a taser to use while we were filming, they have to do some special effects on it. There was a rig and there were some special movie magic moments that happened. We had a really great special effects team on the movie on set and obviously people are doing post-effects in the editing room afterwards. I haven’t seen it yet, but I wish I could tell you more.
Q: You said you did some investigating online. Was is somewhat intimidating to come into this franchise that was so huge and had such a big fan base? What worried you the most and/or what comforted you the most?
A: At first I was really nervous. I discovered while doing press for Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and now for part 2, that there is something about the love for this series and for these characters that I really enjoy discussing with the fans. A lot of actors don’t like doing interviews and talking to fans, but I really enjoy it. You see their eyes light up because there’s this world that they identify with and attach to and enjoy immensely. It’s such an honor to be apart of that because there were a lot of other girls out there who were in the running for this part but for some magical reason I got it.
Q: You were saying that the fans are super passionate about Twilight. What is something that you are passionate about right now?
A: I always say this, I’ve never had anything that I’d be willing to camp out for but I will tell you that I really love Florence and the Machine, I have a little bit of an obsession with her. Other than that, I love Woody Allen films. But nothing that I would camp out for, I haven’t found that thing yet.
Q: I read online that you were really into musicals while growing up. Any aspirations?
A: I trained at a theater school for a couple of years. I would love to go back to New York and do some more stage work, it’s been on my mind as of late. With musicals you have to be willing to put in 190,000% because it’s easy to make a fool out of yourself doing them.
Q: Can you tell us how your experience at Comic-Con was?
A: It was really mellow. The only time I saw anything that really concerned me was at Tent City last year when they had trampled over a girl when Kellan showed up. This year, there was a very tragic incident that happened at Comic Con before we got there, but other than that I’ve been really lucky. I haven’t seen anybody totally freak out or have anything frightening happen.
Q: Speaking of Kellan, can you tell us a little about the Bernard Project that you and him worked on in Baton Rouge?
A: It’s this really lovely charity that Kellan got involved with when he was down there shooting another movie. He brought us down there and it’s a really great charity because you can just show up and they will put you to work. A of time charities want to you train or do this and do that, but we showed up and they gave us hammers and said “do this.” We helped to rebuild a home of a woman that had been flooded during Hurricane Katrina. St. Bernard Parish is right next to the Lower 9th Ward, but it didn’t get the same amount of attention that the Lower 9th Ward got, even though it was just as badly destroyed. It was really moving, we got there and a lady spoke to us about what had happened and I got a little misty-eyed. It was really lovely to go and do that on our day off. Kellan is a very avid in his charity work and really committed to it.
Q: What was the different between filming the wedding scene and the final battle scene in Breaking Dawn – Part 2?
A: When we were shooting the wedding, it was like panic at the disco because it was outdoors and there were helicopters flying over our heads, and paparazzi, and we were trying to keep the dress hidden. It was this anxious, panicky thing happening on set. With the “final confrontation,” as we like to call it, we were on a sound stage. While it was much more grueling and it took much longer to shoot, it was a lot calmer because we had this privacy, this shield from the world, if you will. But at the same time, we shot it for six weeks. When you shoot any kind of action-based thing, it’s so technical and it takes a really long time. I don’t want to give way too much of it because it’s really special and I want everyone to be able to enjoy it.
Q: You spent time with Kellan outside of filming, are there any other cast members you’ve maintained friendships with now that filming is done?
A: Yeah, Julia Jones, Maggie Grace, Mia Maestro, MyAnna Buring, Christian Camargo, Lee Pace, Rami Malek, Bill Tangradi, Guri Weinburg, a lot of people. Some people I see more often than others but everybody really does keep in touch.
Q: We heard about how great it was to work with Bill Condon. Was there any specific moment for you as an actress that particularly stood out? Did he do anything to bring the cast together or take charge of a situation?
A: My favorite thing about Bill was that regardless if there were 80 people or 6 people on set he took the time to come up to each actor and have a private moment and discuss what was happening in that scene. That’s really important because I’ve been on other sets where the directors are yelling on bullhorns and not having intimate communication with the actors to make sure that every moment is taken care of and dealt with. Bill made me feel safe as an actor.
Q: Did Stephenie Meyer tell you anything about Kate’s backstory that you found helpful or interesting?
A: I didn’t ask her much about Kate’s backstory because I had done so much of my own research. But there were some technical things about her special power that I did discuss with her, but I don’t want to tell you what it is right now because I don’t want to ruin anything.
Q: Looking back, is there a favorite day or moment on set that you can talk about?
A: There was a day where I shot a scene with Lee Pace, Kellan, Rob, and Kristen. There were a couple of other people there, but the scene took place between myself, Rob, Kristen, Lee, and Kellan. I really enjoyed that day, we had a lot of fun. You’ll see the scene.
Q: Has being in the Twilight Saga opened any career doors for you?
A: Yes and no. It has and hasn’t. I think that because there was a little tiny teaser of us in [Breaking Dawn] part 1, I think we may see more of that when part 2 comes out. Because of the secrecy we need to keep in order to protect the film and the integrity of the story, I haven’t seen as much of it as I’m sure I’ll see in November when the movie comes out.
Q: Do you have any other upcoming projects?
A: I had one that was meant to shoot in April but the lead actor who also wrote it got another job so we had to put it on hold. It’s this really lovely indie romantic comedy that Abigail Spencer wrote called Wrong Number. Hopefully we’ll shoot it in the fall. She actually wrote the part for me so I’m really excited for it. It’s about a couple that meets on a wrong number phone call.

New Details on Breaking Dawn Part 2 from Jack Morissey Q&A!

Bill Condon’s partner Jack Morrissey did a brilliant fan Q+A over the weekend with Team Jack, and revealed some great new details on Breaking Dawn Part 2!
*Warning! Spoiler-ish!*
The Volterra arial shot in BD2 trailer, is that the REAL Volterra, Italy or just a random italian town? or CGI?
Jack: GREAT question. Bug me on this and I'll ask Bill. Actually, lemme go ask him right now...see how this works? - J.
For consistency's sake it's Montepulciano, which stood in for Volterra in NEW MOON as well. There's no CG present in that shot, btw. -- J.

Do you know if there are plans to release movie posters of the new additions in #BreakingDawn2 ?
Jack: I don't know actually, Amanda. I hope so, though, for obvious reasons... @erikodom -- Jack

I loved the part in the book when Charlie visits the Cullens and realizes Renesmee is E&B’s child. Will this be in the movie?
Jack: It’s gotta be, don’t you think? Yep yep. — Jack

Will Edward carry Bella across the threshold again?
Jack:
No, Bella is a vampire now, so she’s in control. You will like this. — J.

Will Bella attack Seth in the imprinting scene like in the book or Jacob? I’d really like it if she hurt Jacob!
Jack:
You’ll enjoy all aspects of the scene where B. learns that J. imprinted on Renesmee. Both J. and S. are in it. – J

Can you confirm at this point that the song from the Target clip will actually make the cut? *fingers crossed*
Jack:
Yes, the song from the Target clip will be in the movie, I believe. — Jack

What are the forces of the new vampires in BD2? WB: I think she means powers- and which ones will we see?! :)
Jack: Hmmm, why don't we go one vampire at a time? -- J.

Will Nessie ever know that Jacob imprinted on her? that its her destiny to stay with him?
Jack:
Hmmm, no I wouldn’t put it that way. — J.

I’m dying to know, though the scene was only alluded to in the book, will we see Jacob strip in front of Charlie?
Jack:
Hope springs eternal. And you should know what that means by now. Nice body. Very nice, as you know. — Jack

Is the flower design on Renesmee's locket from the book or an original design?
Jack: Oh, good question. That might be one for Greg Yolen. Keep asking me that until I get an answer for you. -- Jack

Will there be a scene where Renesmee bangs on a spoon waiting for Bella to feed her?
Jack:
No, we don’t have that scene. Sorry! — J.
