Bill Condon Explains Using ‘Flightless bird’ on the Breaking Dawn Soundtrack

Fans of the original “Twilight” soundtrack got a pleasant surprise when the recently released track list for "Breaking Dawn – Part 1" revealed that Iron & Wine’s melancholy ballad “Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Wedding Version)” was among the cuts.
Twilighters — who are no doubt gearing up for Thursday’s “MTV First” with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at 7:56 p.m. on MTV and MTV.com — will recall that the song made its “Saga” debut in the closing moments of “Twilight” as Bella and Edward shared their first dance. And according to Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon, the retread of this memorable number was an important reference for him to make.

“I always thought of this movie as the bookend to the first movie, and that was such a great powerful, romantic song for those characters,” he told MTV News during a phone interview last week.
“It just felt right to kind of refer back to it at this important, important moment,” he added about “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” the first of the two-part finale.

Of course, Condon wouldn’t reveal exactly which important moment this song will accompany in the November 18 film, leaving fans to wonder whether its delicate strains will find their way into the wedding itself or perhaps Mr. and Mrs. Cullen’s first dance as man and wife.
Condon did divulge, however, that the song is just one of many callbacks to earlier “Twilight Saga” films. “[There are] quite a few,” he confirmed. “Musically, I would say at the wedding there’s a jazz quartet that plays a couple of tracks from ‘Eclipse.’
Carter Burwell has come back to do the score. He did the first movie, so ‘Bella’s Lullaby’ features in this movie too.”

OH MY GOD! How excited are you now? I absolutely LOVE that Bill Condon thinks this way!!!
Only 17 days left to go!

(well technically, at time of post, there's 16 days, 3 hours and 22 minutes until the midnight showing of Breaking Dawn... but who's counting?!)

Listen: The Belle Brigade's 'I Didn't Mean It'
from the Breaking Dawn Soundtrack

The Belle Brigade were recently interviewed by jsyk, and opened up about their Breaking Dawn song "I didn't mean it", explaining that they hope it will be coupled with the battle scene, but won't find out until they see it in theaters on Nov. 18th!
They also explained how the song came to be a part of the album.
"Around the time our record was released, Alex Patsavas asked us if we had any additional material that could be used for possible placement . . . We gave her our song 'I Didn't Mean It' and were lucky enough to have it chosen... pretty cool!" they explained.
As for how they came up with the song; "We were housesitting for someone who had a piano and were making some demos in the process, and somewhere in the night we came up with the piano riff for the song. The rest of the song couldn't have taken more than 30 minutes to finish . . . those songs are always the most fun! The song is about a raging and jealous person who feels ashamed about acting out of his/her jealousy."

You can read the rest of their interview over at jsyk.com.
Listen to the full version "I Didn't Mean It" below!

Evanescence want to be included on the ‘Breaking Dawn’ Soundtrack!

MTV has the latest scoop from the band Evanescence, who, it turns out – really, really want to be included on the upcoming Breaking Dawn soundtrack.
Frontwoman Amy Lee explained how she got into the first Twilight book and was soon a big fan, but unlike the rest of her band, she’s Team Jacob. Check out the interview below: (US Only)

(Twilight mention happens at about 4:20)

And, as they told MTV News after the premiere of their new song “What You Want”, scoring a slot on the upcoming “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ soundtrack is definitely a goal this time out.
“I’ve been screaming for [new song] ‘My Heart Is Broken’ to land in that, because I think it would fit the story so well,” drummer Will Hunt said. “I got sucked into the ‘Twilight’ vortex by the girls at home, so by default, I’ve got to watch it.”
“I think that would be awesome, actually,” frontwoman Amy Lee added.
It’s not like Evanescence haven’t tried to get on a “Twilight” soundtrack in the past, but for whatever reason, it never panned out. And it was because of those early attempts that they’d love to be included in the next film. … Simply put, Lee has become invested in the story, and she’s not afraid to admit it.
“Fine, I read the books; everybody hates me now,” Lee laughed. “I didn’t watch the first movie — I was like, ‘Yeah, whatever. I got over vampires in high school’ — then they were like, ‘Maybe you should write a song for the movie,’ so I read the book and I wrote some songs, and it didn’t work out because they have all these cool hipster people that are doing the ‘Twilight’ stuff. But then I was kind of into it, so I read the next books.”
And after reading the books, Lee actually found herself at odds with her bandmates, most of whom are avowed members of Team Edward. Seems she’s got a soft spot for the frequently shirtless werewolf, though not for reasons you’d probably expect.
“Jacob [is my favorite], for sure,” she said. “He’s the good guy, he’s the sweetheart.”
Read can read the full story at over at MTV.

So, do you think Evanescence would be a good choice for the soundtrack?
If so, what do you think of the title "My heart is broken"?
Could it be an Edward song? Jacob? Bella??
As most of you already know, Stephenie Meyer herself has used some of their older songs as inspiration whilst writing the books, so I'm sure she'd love to have them on board!
