MTV interviews David Cronenberg after 'Cosmopolis' win!
via MTV;
Eric Packer is about to embark upon the worst car ride of his life. Thankfully, Robert Pattinson — the actor who plays Packer in"Cosmopolis" — doesn't share his character's fate.
Pattinson fans came out in full force to elect "Cosmopolis" the winner of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, a weeks-long tournament that pitted several of 2012's biggest releases against one another to determine which film is the must-see cinematic event of the year. After tense battles against titans like "Bel Ami,""The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn: Part 2," "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Hunger Games," it's Pattinson's upcoming indie thriller that took home the grand prize.
Rob *drools* and David on the Cosmopolis set
It's a surprising result for many onlookers, given that "Cosmopolis" has yet to release a trailer and only has a tentative release date of 2012. But Rob's fans rallied behind their man, opting to support his future in "Cosmopolis" over his past in "Twilight" — a commanding decision from a massive fanbase that demands attention, to say the least. In fact, the movement was so strong that it even caught "Cosmopolis" director David Cronenberg's eye even before the film won the brawl for it all. Shortly after the victory was announced, Cronenberg got on the phone with MTV News to talk about what "Cosmopolis" winning the MTV Movie Brawl means for the film, Pattinson's performance, when fans can expect to see a trailer and much more.
MTV: David, thanks for talking with us! Have you been filled in on what's happened with "Cosmopolis" over here?
David Cronenberg: You know, I've been following it! I'm shocked! I'm shocked and amazed and really tickled. It proves that movie fans are unpredictable and really interesting and really passionate. It's fantastic. I would have never, ever imagined that this would happen.
MTV: How did the tournament first get on your radar?
Cronenberg: Somebody sent me something and said, "Hey, we seem to be doing OK in this Movie Brawl thing that MTV's got going on." I didn't know about it. At that point, we were struggling with "The Dark Knight," I think. I thought, "Wow, that's pretty impressive!" Because "Cosmopolis," while I think in terms of what it is as cinema is pretty hefty, but in terms of budget and promotion, it's an underdog compared to something like "The Dark Knight" franchise. I really didn't think we would have much of a chance. That really got my attention.
MTV: What's kind of incredible, too, is that right before that battle with Batman, "Cosmopolis" was up against "Twilight." It was Rob versus Rob! In what we saw, it seemed that fans were putting their votes towards Rob's future instead of his past.
Cronenberg: Well, and I think that's one of the things that I meant when I said it was interesting. Because that's not the kind of thing you would predict. But it was really terrific, and in that sense, they're right. As I've said many times, if you're a "Twilight" fan, then you might not be interested in "Cosmopolis" because Rob is not Mr. Cullen. But if you're a Rob fan, then you've got to be interested in "Cosmopolis," because you will see him as you have not seen him before, for sure.
MTV: Clearly, there is a lot of interest in this movie, seeing that it came out ahead over movies like "Dark Knight," "Twilight" and "Hunger Games." There is a lot of attention on Rob, of course. Can you talk about your experience working with Rob, and the kind of actor you found him to be over the course of shooting "Cosmopolis"?
Cronenberg: He's terrific. He deserves the affection that the fans have for him. He's incredibly sweet, he's very funny, he's very bright and he's also very knowledgeable about cinema. Not just movies but the history of cinema. He knows a lot about it. He's just a sweetheart. And he's totally professional. He's always right there. We had a lot of fun shooting [the movie] because, as I say, he has a great sense of humor. We just played a lot. I think that's a really great tone that's set for everybody on the set. The lead actor has a really big influence on the tone of the shoot. If you've got a guy who's very difficult and neurotic or whatever, they can't help but affect everybody's day. But Rob is not like that. He's just a ray of sunshine. In fact, he's in absolutely every scene of the movie, so obviously his temperament would have a huge influence on how the shoot went ... and it was a dream. It was a beautiful shoot.
MTV: I think one of the reasons why some are surprised with how this tournament played out is that most of the films that were competing have trailers. This one doesn't — at least not yet! When can fans expect to see a trailer?
Cronenberg: We feel probably that this won't be released until next fall. It's not exactly a summer movie and it won't be ready for a while. The movie is finished, but something that fans maybe don't know is how long it takes a movie to get released. You want to do a couple of film festivals, the studios in each country have to get their materials ready. The photographs, the trailers, everything ... it takes a lot of time, you know? The other thing is, we kind of want to keep things a little bit of a secret until we unleash it on the world. We're pretty excited about it and we don't really want to let too much out about what it is and how it plays.
MTV: In terms of when this is coming out, you said perhaps fall of this year. So there's no firm release date just yet?
Cronenberg: No, not at all. It's been sold to a lot of countries and distributors around the world, but for example, it does not yet have U.S. distribution. That's fine, because we didn't want to look for it until we had the finished film. But frankly, the Movie Brawl results might well help us get some good U.S. distribution! [He laughs.] I just thought of that, but you know, it's possible! It's interesting to hear that indication of interest before you even release a trailer — that's pretty darn good. But you can't release a trailer until you have a distributor, and a distributor has to really have all the material, so it takes a while.
MTV: Well, something close to 6 million votes were cast in this tournament, and almost 4 million were cast in this final poll alone. The numbers do not lie.
Cronenberg: That's fantastic. That's just great. That's just great.
MTV: In the spirit of this tournament, what's the movie you're most excited to see in 2012? What's the film you can't wait to get your eyes on?
Cronenberg: You know, I'm so focused on what I've been doing that I actually don't know what's around! It's strange. I haven't even caught up with last year's films. I have a movie out now called "A Dangerous Method" with Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen. I've been touring the world promoting that, been to a ton of film festivals, but I haven't had a chance to see any of the movies, because I'm constantly having to do interviews and stuff for that. Now, that's calmed down now that the movie has finally been released in the U.S., but the result is that I'm way behind on everything.
MTV: So you've got to catch up on 2011 before moving onto 2012.
Cronenberg: That's right! Let me catch up first, and then I'll start thinking about 2012.
MTV: Finally, any last messages to the "Cosmopolis" fans who pushed this movie to the top?
Cronenberg: They won't be disappointed in Rob. He is fantastic.
Pfft! We knew that already, David, but thank you ;)

Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis Wins MTV's 'Movie Brawl'
As many of you are aware from our overly-obsessive Facebook-ing and Tweeting,
(er, sorry about that ~ Jess)
Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis was involved in an 'MTV Movie Brawl' with "The Hunger Games" to figure out the film you're most excited to see in 2012.
Well..... here are the results:
Therefore I am proud to say that....
COSMOPOLIS HAS WON!!!
Josh Horowitz from MTV was the one who broke the news to Paul Giamatti.
(Benno Levin in Cosmopolis)
Check out his reaction below!
Cosmopolis was actually an MTV wild card entry in the beginning - meaning it wasn't even on the initial list MTV had - and was nominated into the competition.

It soon beat Rob's other film, Bel Ami (by only 3 votes, might I add!) before taking out Breaking Dawn Part 2 and The Dark Night Rises in order to get into the final - where it met it's rival - The Hunger Games.
Voting between the two movies was tight - with the leaders changing from hour to hour and only managing to get a lead of 0.1 or 0.2% before dropping again!
But Rob's fans prevailed!
Are you proud??
thanks again, Robsessed. I love this gif :) |
Now if only we could get a trailer...lol
Here's how MTV announced the win;
The final buzzer has sounded, the brawl for it all is over, and Robert Pattinson is the last man standing: "Cosmopolis" has won MTV Movie Brawl 2012. His indie drama made for one hell of a Cinderella story in the vote-driven tournament to pick the must-see movie of the year. Entering the bracket as a #4 seed (following an impressive showing in the play-in round), "Cosmopolis" appeared to be facing an unavoidable Elite Eight ouster. What were the chances Pattinson's cerebral film about a young finance wiz taking a day-long limo ride though New York City would beat "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2"?
Apparently pretty good. Fans banded together, choosing to support RPattz's post-vampire career rather than the franchise that made him a star. "Breaking Dawn" was sent packing. And so, after easily fighting off "The Dark Knight Rises," "Cosmopolis" came to face "The Hunger Games," a brand-new franchise that had waltzed through the tournament and seemed to be the odds-on favorite to win the whole tourney. But it was not to be. After more than 3 million votes and a slew of lead changes, Pattinson's film beat back Jennifer Lawrence's series to become the undisputed champion of the Movie Brawl.
Hours before voting closed Monday afternoon (January 23), with "Cosmopolis" staking out an insurmountable lead and the MTV Movies team at the Sundance Film Festival, we broke the news to Pattinson's co-star, Paul Giamatti, that their film had won the tournament. "Holy cow, that's astounding!" he said. "The fact of that is amazing. ... That's a really cool thing that it brings that visibility to that movie." It's been a whirlwind few weeks in the tournament, so we'd like to thank all the fans who voted. The Brawl broke bigger than we could have ever hoped. Well over 5 million votes were cast. The competition spread wildly over Twitter and Facebook. Our comments sections caught fire as fans debated, argued and rallied. In the end, though, only one film could stand as the undisputed champion of the MTV Movie Brawl.
Pattinson, Giamatti, director David Cronenberg and everyone connected to "Cosmopolis" — we salute you!
All that's left for me to say now is... WELL DONE!
You have made Robert Pattinson proud and proved our fandom is still going strong! :)

Robsten Prediction for 2012 from OK! Magazine Philippines
What do you think will happen this year for Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart??
OK! Magazine has predicted what 2012 holds for the two stars.
"The Twilight starts will be more open about their real-life romance. Robert will also score a huge project, which will elevate him from his heartthrob status to a certified Hollywood actor. Kristen, on the other hand, will find herself at odds with her manager or agent causing her to look for another person to oversee her career."
Check out the scan below...
Do you agree with their prediction?
I agree with Rob's one, but Kristen has got a major movie coming out in June, so I truly don't see her disappearing from the big screen any time soon.
Maybe you have a different opinion though?

Carter Burwell on ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2′ and the Creative Process
Ever wonder how Carter Burwell managed to score Twilight and Breaking Dawn so brilliantly?
In an interview with "The Sag Harbor Express" he explains a little about the creative process, and how he thought up the melody for the Twilight music.
Carter Burwell |
Over the course of a 28-year career, the film composer and Amagansett resident [Carter Burwell] has written music for more than 75 feature-length films including “Twilight” and nearly every film ever made by the Coen Brothers.
- At what point in the filming process will you come onboard?
Generally, I don’t actually write anything until a film has actually been shot. But, there are some exceptions.
In the movie I’m working on right now, which is “Breaking Dawn: Part II,” they needed Rob Pattinson and the actress who plays his daughter to play piano on screen. I had to write this duet before they shot the film so they could actually learn the parts. Rob is a musician, so he prides himself on working out the fingering for these correctly.
- So before the movie is finished filming, but after you’ve discussed the mood of the film with the directors, do you start to research and gather sounds?
I do. Actually, it’s an interesting thing. The question of mood doesn’t really come up that much. A typical thing we would discuss would be the motivation of the main character.
- So, I understand the creative process, the idea of trying to find a character’s motivation. But, how do you even start to put music to it?
I’ll first watch the movie enough to get a definite idea of what I think it wants: there’s a story element that needs a theme, or there’s a character that needs a theme. I’ll have these thoughts in mind, and then I’ll go and play the piano without the movie there and that’s what I do. I’ll sit at the piano for as long as it takes — and hopefully it doesn’t take too long because they don’t give you that much time!
- Have you always played piano?
I took lessons as a kid — I really hated it — and came back to it later when I was in my high school years because a friend showed me how to improvise on piano. Playing written music, which is of course what I was doing when I had lessons as a kid, is not really interesting to me. I don’t even like playing my own music once it’s written down.
- Have you always been able to associate emotions with sound? For instance, to know what a character’s motivation is, and then easily get to the piano and play it out?
What you just brought up is the hardest thing. To find what that relationship is between sound and emotion, and to do it in some non-cliché way is still a bit of a mystery to me. The only way I can usually do it is to just try many, many, many things… but that’s what I enjoy doing on piano. I make random mutations in a melody, or a theme, and then I perform selections by choosing ones I think are getting me somewhere.

‘Twilight’ on Broadway: Rob and Kristen doubles revealed!
Meghann Fahy & Colin Hanlon in the reading of 'Twilight: The Musical'; Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson in 'Twilight |
In a charitable one-night only first reading of ‘Twilight: The Musical,’ audience members were treated to a first hand look at the progress that is the journey of making a musical from the worldwide phenomenon book series that is ‘Twilight.’
Gemma Wilson, writing for Broadway Buzz, gave a recap of the one-night special. Interestingly, the play goes head-to-head with another worldwide sensation - Harry Potter.
Yes, the 'Twilight' teens battle it out with the Hogwarts crew in the Broadway play that is still very much in development.
Though Harry, Hermoine, and pals ultimately fall to Edward and Bella and company in the scope of the play, Wilson writes that there is an apparent message that draws comparisons between the morals of the two teen hits.
"You were willing to sacrifice everything to get a boyfriend. In the end, you destroyed yourself,” says Harry to Bella at the end of the play.
The reading took place on January 16th at New World Stages in New York City, playing host to screaming (and howling) teenage fans. The play, based on the book written by Ashley Griffin, features music from four different composers and was directed by Gabriel Barre.
The actors had only 24 hours to prepare for their one-night-only reading of the play, which provided “more than $3,000 for Blessings in a Backpack, an organization that makes sure elementary schoolers whose families qualify for Free and Reduced Price Meal program have enough to eat on weekends, as well.”
Chosen to play Bella was Meghann Fahy, who mimicked Kristen Stewart’s thought patterns while performing.
"There are so many Kristen Stewart-isms that I adore,” ‘Twilight’ fan Fahy told Broadway.com. "Like—how do I say this?—being perplexed by your own thoughts, because they’re just so huge that you can’t even say them."
Colin Hanlon was picked to take on the role of teen heart throb and vampire Edward Cullen.
“I don’t look like him, so I had to pick out a couple of his little quirks,” Hanlon said, of playing the role of Edward. “Like, he always has his head down, and he’s always standing over [Bella] in kind of an intimidating way, and every word out of his mouth is like he’s trying to do Shakespeare and ... it’s not," he said. "The more seriously you can take that character, that’s what makes it funny.”
"What we just did is so ridiculous," Fahy said of the radical stage adaption of 'Twilight', "and really, that’s the reason it works.”
The play continues to be in development for the rest of the month.
Would you like to see a Twilight-Musical in Ireland?
Or would you just like to stick with the movies and books?

Translation of voice-over

Bel Ami hits cinemas here on March 2nd. Are you excited? :DIn Spring 2012, there will be a screening of the dramatic picture Bel Ami, based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant. This novel is referred to as being a French Literature Classic. It was filmed many times - one of which was porno! And although everyone probably knows this already, the premiere is being met with impatience because the main character is played by handsome Twilight actor Robert Pattinson.
The creators of the film Bel Ami decided not to rewrite a classic, and made quite a precise adaptation. The main character is Georges DuRoy, an ex-military soldier living in poverty in the midst of luxury Paris. But one day, he meets his old fellow Charles Forestier, who has become a journalist, and a new life starts.Georges can do almost nothing, but he is very attractive and his mind is resourceful. On having new experiences he understands that there is invisible power in the higher society that can help him gain more power. This power comes in the form of the wives of rich and powerful men.
In the beginning, he has a love affair with his friend's wife - then with a high society lady called Clotilde de Marelle. Then with her daughter. And it is her who calls him Bel Ami.George's life soon becomes full, with a line of mistresses, lies, manipulations and calculated marriages.
The director of Bel Ami is Englishman Declan Donnellan.Russia knows him thanks to his numerous performances in the Moscow Artistic Academic Theatre (MHAT), the Pushkinâ's theatre and even in Bolshoy theatre.Declan managed to combine outstanding cast for this film. Bel Ami's Georges Duroy is Robert Pattinson, who is finally free from his vampire alter-ego.In this movie, he has love affairs with wonderful actresses, including Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas and so on. Everything was filmed in London and Budapest, but the action is actually meant to be in Paris.
As Robert Pattinson said himself, he played amoral Georges with great pleasure not only because he got to learn French, but because the Bel Ami Novel is one of his favourite books.

Shooting Start Date for The Host Announced
In an article about the production companies Chockstone and Nick Wechsler, it was revealed that principal photography on Stephenie Meyer's "The Host" would begin on February 13th 2012, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Both the Chockstone and Nick Wechsler production companies are producing The Host, but no casting announcements (apart from Saoirse Ronan) have been made yet.
Wow!
It's hard to believe that The Host will start filming in less than a month! (considering plans for a book-movie adaptation were announced way back in 2009!)
