"Twilight" actor Kellan Lutz is the newest recruit in "War of the Gods," the upcoming Greek mythology epic from director Tarsem Singh ("The Fall").Lutz has earned the role of Poseidon, the Greek god that rules over the seas, according to Variety. He joins an impressive cast list that includes Henry Cavill ("The Tudors") as the heroic Theseus, Mickey Rourke ("Iron Man 2") as the ruthless King Hyperion and Freida Pinto ("Slumdog Millionaire") as Phaedra, an oracle priestess.
"War of the Gods" is a swords-and-sandals epic centered on mortal soldiers caught in a war between the eternal Greek gods and the evil Titans, with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance. Production is scheduled to begin in April based on a screenplay written by Jason Keller.
Lutz is no stranger to fantasy fare, thanks to his beloved "Twilight" role of Emmett Cullen, one of the many foster siblings of Robert Pattinson's character. The actor was also a reported leading contender for the title role in director Marcus Nispel's "Conan," though he ultimately lost the part to Jason Momoa ("Stargate: Atlantis"). Lutz will next be seen in the upcoming "Nightmare on Elm Street" revival.
